Community Rallies to Save Turtles with New Crossing Signs

A successful GoFundMe campaign in Lily Lake has raised enough money to install signs warning drivers of turtle crossings on a road between two ponds in the Sunset Views neighborhood. The campaign, called "Support Our Safe Turtle Crossing Initiative," was started by resident Abby Drommerhausen, who was distressed by the sight of turtles being killed by passing cars.   

In her GoFundMe campaign, Drommerhausen highlighted the issue: "Turtles are on the move once the weather gets warm—but sometimes, a road stands between them and their destination. Speeding traffic and slow-moving turtles don’t mix, and many turtles are severely injured or killed on roads every year."

The newly installed signs aim to remind drivers to slow down when passing the ponds, helping to protect the turtles.
