Earth Day Celebrations April 22, 2023

Aurora – 201 N. River Street 8:00 a.m. to Noon
THIS EVENT HAS REACHED CAPACITY AND REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. The City of Aurora is hosting its annual free Spring Electronics Recycling Drive-Thru on Earth Day.

Elgin – Hawthorne Hill Nature Center 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There will be family friendly activities, presentations, and giveaways. The focus will be on earth-friendly practices, and we will have local environmental organizations and vendors.

Geneva – Peck Farm 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The event features recycling opportunities (televisions for a fee, shoes, cotton clothes, small electronics, and holiday lights) nature crafts, demonstrations, chalk art, kids' activities, tree planting (registration required), and self-guided prairie tours. Food vendors will be available. The event is open to all ages.

Kane County Forest Preserve – Tekakwitha Woods 9:00 a.m.
Celebrate Earth Day with the Forest Preserve District! Volunteers are needed to help plant hundreds of trees at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve in St. Charles. Simply plant the trees in pre-dug holes, water, and mulch. It's easy! This event is perfect for individuals, families, or groups; all ages are welcome.

Sleepy Hollow – Village Hall 1 Thorobred Lane 9:00 a.m.
The Sleepy Hollow Beatification Committee is once again holding our Earth Day Roadway Clean-Up effort on Saturday April 22, 2023. We will be meeting at the Village Hall at 9:00 a.m. to hand out pickers, safety vests, and bags. If you can bring a five-gallon bucket, a picker, and gloves since we don’t have enough for everyone that would be helpful.

South Elgin – Municipal Annex (1 W State Street) ​ 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Help clean the parks around the Village in celebration of Earth Day. We will be work to install native plantings along the shoreline; we will provide garbage bags and pick sticks for cleaning up trash along the riverfront and the creek in County Park.

Sugar Grove – April 23 Noon – 3:00 p.m.
The Sugar Grove Community is invited to come out and get the Village ready for spring by picking up trash around town. Participants will meet at the NE corner of the Sugar Grove shopping plaza along Park Ave.

Elgin – April 29 Earth Summit Climate Action Implementation Plan Listening Session
Get involved in protecting the future of Kane County by attending an upcoming Community Listening Session for the County’s First Climate Action Implementation Plan. The gathering will be part of Elgin’s Earth Summit on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at Elgin Community College. The public will have the opportunity to connect with local environmental organizations and learn about sustainability initiatives in the area.

Huntley – April 29 Green and Clean Day
Huntley residents are invited to join us at Green & Clean Huntley Day! Events include electronics recycling, paper/document destruction, print cartridge recycling, eyeglass collection, gently used book drive, spring cleaning, mulch pick up and more.
