Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Robert
He came to KCAC looking a little roughed up.
Like an aging prizefighter tired of the circuit, always losing the fight, Robert—a 3-plus-year-old black domestic shorthair—carries the scars of life on the streets, scrambling for food and fending off other cats and wildlife.
He may not be the most handsome feline, but his personality wins hearts—if only people take the time to know him.
Robert loves people. In fact, he runs straight up to anyone who enters the cat room, immediately claiming them as his person and cuddling up.
If petted for too long, he can get overstimulated, which he communicates with a light nip as a warning. It’s up to the person whether to continue or end the petting session.
Robert also loves to lick—sometimes for what feels like forever, or at least until the sun goes down. He enjoys climbing all over visitors, soaking up every bit of affection.
He thrives on human companionship, but when it comes to other pets, Robert isn’t a fan. He would do best as the only cat in a home. While his reaction to dogs is uncertain, his street-cat survival instincts suggest he may find their presence too stressful.
Robert wears his battle scars without apology—they are proof of his resilience. Now, he’s ready to trade street life for a safe, loving forever home.
