Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Meet ALT

“Kitten, four hours of sleep while holding you is far more beneficial to me than eight hours of endless tossing and turning because you’re not there.” – Jeaniene Frost, American fantasy author

KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. The ALT key on a computer keyboard usually works in tandem with another key to accomplish basic shortcuts. However, the only shortcut you might want to perform with ALT, a 3-month-old gray and white spayed Domestic Shorthair kitten, is the one where she snuggles into your lap and you immediately cover her in kisses.

Weighing in at a little over two pounds, ALT, the daughter of Spezi, a beautiful tortie Domestic Shorthair, is definitely as sweet as her mom but with a tinge more kittenish charm. She’s literally so adorable, it’s difficult not to want to pick her up and carry her everywhere. Unfortunately, if it looks as though someone is going to pick her up to hold her, she will pull back in order to make it more difficult. She doesn’t seem to enjoy getting lifted off of her firmly planted little kitten feet.

However, she’s more than willing to crawl onto someone’s lap where she can enjoy as much attention as they’re willing to give. She could actually remain there for all of eternity as long as they allow her to crawl in and out of their laps. ALT likes to head-butt her visitors, which is her way of letting them know she’s interested in getting to know them.

More recently, she’s discovered shoelaces. She figured out that these long strings are fun to chase, especially if the shoe happens to be on someone’s foot. For anyone who wears shoes with laces, this is your warning! Be prepared to have your shoes stalked and taken down by a small baby kitty.

When ALT first met Dame Maggie Smith, a 5-month-old Domestic Shorthair, also currently up for adoption, she was a little apprehensive. The staff allowed ALT to take her time getting to know the Dame and within an hour or so, ALT was acting as though she and Dame Maggie had been besties forever! The two of them play vigorously, with all their might, as though today is the last day they will ever get to play together. Then, exhausted, they pass out from all that fun. ALT will sleep so close to Dame Maggie it’s impossible to tell where one kitten begins and the other one ends.

ALT + 1 = Happy kitten.

☺  KCAC Updates Congratulations to Spezi, ALT’s tortie momma who was a kitten herself when she gave birth to five little ones at KCAC. In a few short months, Spezi has gone from single mother to a full-fledged cat with a forever home. It’s finally her turn to get the love and comfort she should have had all along. We’ll miss you, young lady!
