Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Daffy

KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 2/7/2025 4:00PM
“The love of a dog is a pure thing. He gives you a trust which is total. You must not betray it.” – Michel Houellebecq, French author.

His name at the KCAC shelter is Daffy, which somehow seems to suit him because he likes to play and act silly and jump around as though he has springs on his little legs.

Daffy is a 1-year-old, neutered tan and yellow unknown mix. He came in as a stray extremely matted and almost unrecognizable as a dog. Once the long tendrils were removed, however, Daffy finally experienced the feeling of freedom he hadn’t had for a very long time. Perhaps for the first time in his life, he could actually move around and play with squeaky toys, which everyone found out he actually loved.      Daffy3.jpg

Throw the toy and he’ll race after it. He will throw it up in the air all on his own and chase it again wherever it falls. If no one is around, Daffy will play by himself or with whoever is willing and able to take the time to throw the toy down the hallway and make it squeak.

Best of all, he’s a people and dog canine. He enjoys the company of everyone. He loves getting petted as well as spending time with other dogs. When he sees another canine, he has a tendency to get so excited he forgets everything else. Uppermost in his mind is that he wants to play with that other dog and he focuses only on that.

Because of this, Daffy will need some basic training to learn to respond to cues that other dogs may express. It’s important for him to learn that not all dogs are friendly or want him to get into their personal space.

Daffy is a survivor. He made it off the streets and wound up at KCAC, where we’re confident he will find the perfect home with all the love, trust and support he can handle for the rest of his life.

KCAC Updates Congratulations to Carrot, the orange cat that was so shy and traumatized by getting brought to KCAC that he hid in his kennel and attempted to ignore the world as it passed him by. Well, tickle me silly! Carrot found his fur-ever home with a family experienced with cats of all kinds! Pictures have been sent showing the big boy sitting on someone’s lap staring into the camera as he protectively puts his paw across them. Another one shows the orange boy who has a new name curled up in his comfortable cat bed looking as though he’s daring anyone to remove him. We are so happy for you, Carrot!     mango1.jpg
