Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - McFlurry
“My cat is not insane, she's just a really good actress." – Phyllis Christine Cast (P.C.), American romance/fantasy author
Adjust! It could be the word of the day!
If you think about it—and you don't have to think about it very hard—all of us spend much of our day adjusting to just about everything. We adjust to meeting new people, travelling, getting a new job, eating different foods, downsizing, upsizing, the ever-changing weather, and, oh, heck, just living!
Whew! That's a lot of adjusting! That's a lot of change.
Just imagine what it must be like for a 9-pound cat to have to adjust to losing her forever home, to suddenly find herself living as a stray, and, finally, winding up in a shelter with other cats and dogs.
The noises, all the sounds, the overall chaos can be very intimidating for a sensitive feline. Somewhere along the way, McFlurry, a 3-year-old spayed, brown and white Domestic Medium-haired cat decided to protect herself from all that change, all that adjusting by keeping to herself.
Some may see this as having an independent nature. Others see it as just being timid or shy. But if you're able to get past that, then, man-o-man, you've got an amazing feline.
Toys don't interest her. Other cats also don't interest her, either, although she doesn't seem bothered by most of them. Because quick movements frighten her, dogs in the home, of course, are a definite no-no.
She likes to get pets and will even purr, but she's not a lap-cat. However, she will sit beside you and allow you to pet her. She also enjoys eating her meals in front of whoever is serving her food that day. In fact, she'll eat an entire bowl of food, as long as the person remains in the room.
She's starting to talk a little bit more now, which is a good sign of her possibly coming out of her shell. She likes to sit beside you, but not on you while she gives a soliloquy, probably on the topic of what it is to be a cat in a world of adjustment and change.
