Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Dame Maggie Smith the Kitten
KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 5/27/2025 1:00AM
You don’t have to curtsy or bow when she runs past you, but you just might want to in deference to her title.
Named after one of the best actresses who ever tread the boards on any stage or screen, Dame Maggie Smith, the kitten currently at KCAC, perhaps pales in comparison to the actual aforementioned actor. After all, our Dame Maggie Smith is only a 3-month-old black and white Domestic Shorthair who’s looking for a home.

Her life is just beginning, after all. She hasn’t been alive long enough to find all the places to play hide and seek, or fall asleep in any number of cubbyholes, or give a great soliloquy of meows while she’s high atop a kitchen cabinet.
With her black Batman mask and dab of black helping to define her chin, Dame Maggie is one of the sweetest kittens around.
Whether it’s belting out her lines to the back of the room, or, probably, more accurately, meowing her need to get petted, just like her counterpart, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie has a great set of lungs. She doesn’t like getting ignored, so she will attempt to convince anyone near her to just keep petting her. If that doesn’t work, then she will try to crawl up their leg so she can demand her share of pets.
And tummy rubs are always accepted!

Congratulations to Jude, the 4-month-old female, spayed, black German Shepherd Dog-mix. She definitely took a sad situation and made it better. Her forever family came to adopt her, and it seemed as though it was love at first sight.
Good job, Jude!
