Kane County has opened a new Property Code Enforcement Division.

“I am pleased that as of March 13, two staff members are now working in the new Property Code Enforcement Division of Kane County," said Development and Community Services Director Mark VanKerkhoff.  “They are already responding to new concerns as well as following up with our team and other departments regarding active cases."

The Property Code Enforcement Division works with citizens to resolve issues that impact the quality of life in Kane County.  The Division does routine inspections of commercial and residential areas and responds to citizen complaints.  Typical inspections may include property maintenance concerns like uncut grass or inoperable vehicles, building code compliance issues like construction without the proper permit, unpermitted land disturbance that changes where rain water goes or adds gravel or grindings type materials to the property.

The Property Code Enforcement Division coordinates enforcement with the appropriate County department and the State's Attorney's Office.

John Mall is the Division's new Property Code Enforcement Officer, joining the County after serving 24 years with the Oswego Police Department.  His contact information is:  Desk- 630-232-3479; email:  MallJohn@co.kane.il.us.

Collin Miller is the Division's new Property Code Enforcement Inspector, joining the County after serving as a property code inspector intern with the City of Naperville.  His contact information is: Desk- 630-444-1063.

Property code complaints for unincorporated areas may be called in or submitted online at:  https://www.kanehealth.com/Pages/Nuisance-Complaint-Form.aspx.

Open burning complaints during normal business hours should be called in to 630-444-3040. For burning complaints outside of normal business hours, contact the Kane County Sheriff's non-emergency number at 630-232-8400.

Work is underway to add a third staff member to the new Division, an administrative assistant.  VanKerkhoff said they hope to hire an individual who is bilingual in this role.

The Development and Community Services Department oversees County Land Use Planning, Building Permits and Inspections for the unincorporated areas and the Villages of Virgil, Kaneville and Big Rock, the Kane County Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Maps, Agriculture and Farmland Programs, Historic Preservation, and Cable Television Administration for the unincorporated areas.
