Earth Day celebrations are taking place in a number of Kane County communities this year. 

Aurora –  Registration opens on Earth Day April 22 for the City of Aurora annual free Spring Electronics Recycling event, to be held May 4.  

Elgin – Hawthorne Hill Nature Center 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 20
There will be family friendly activities, presentations, and giveaways. The focus will be on earth-friendly practices, and we will have local environmental organizations and vendors.

Elgin – Earth Summit Centre of Elgin 100 Symphony Way, Heritage Ballroom 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 20
Connect with local environmental organizations, learn about sustainability topics, enter a drawing for an e-bike and more.  Light refreshments will be served.  

Geneva – Peck Farm 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on April 20
The event features recycling opportunities (televisions for a fee, shoes, cotton clothes, small electronics, and holiday lights) nature crafts, demonstrations, chalk art, kids' activities, tomato plant giveaway and self-guided prairie tours. Food vendors will be available. The event is open to all ages.

Huntley – Green and Clean Day on April 27
Huntley residents are invited to join us at Green & Clean Huntley Day! Events include electronics recycling, paper/document destruction, print cartridge recycling, eyeglass collection, gently used book drive, spring cleaning, mulch pick up and more. Kane County Forest Preserve – Elburn Forest Preserve  9:00 a.m. on April 20
Celebrate Earth Day with the Forest Preserve District! Volunteers are needed to help plant hundreds of trees at Elburn Forest Preserve. Simply plant the trees in pre-dug holes, water, and mulch. It's easy! This event is perfect for individuals, families, or groups; all ages are welcome.

Pingree Grove – Earth Day Cleanup  9:00 a.m. on April 20 (rain date April 21)
The Village of Pingree Grove wants all groups to meet at the baseball complex parking lot (1075 Western Blvd).  The top three registered groups that fill up the most 33 gal bags with collected trash from designated areas around the village, will receive a local gift card.  The Village will provide 33 gal. garbage bags and gloves.

Sleepy Hollow – Village Hall 1 Thorobred Lane 9:00 a.m. - Noon on April 20
The Sleepy Hollow Beautification Committee is once again holding our Earth Day Roadway Clean-Up effort on Saturday April 20, 2024. We will be meeting at the Village Hall at 9:00 a.m. to hand out pickers, safety vests, and bags. If you can bring a five-gallon bucket, a picker, and gloves since we don’t have enough for everyone that would be helpful.

South Elgin – SEBA Park Shelter (151 Water Street) ​ 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on April 20
Help clean the parks around the Village in celebration of Earth Day. Choose your favorite area to clean or join other volunteers for a riverside clean up effort.

St. Charles- Hickory Knolls DIscovery Center  – 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.  April 20
This free drop-in event is for all ages and features crafts, hands-on projects, animal meet-and-greets and more.  ​
