Solar Switch Powers Up to Launch Fall Program, Offering Solar Energy to Chicagoland Homes and Businesses

Kane County Sustainablity Office / Solar Switch 6/12/2024 3:00AM

Kane County's Sustainability team has joined forces with nonprofits Midwest Renewable Energy Association and Citizens Utility Board to offer Solar Switch, a solar group buying program.

Learn about the basics of solar, how it can lower energy costs, and how this program make solar more affordable during a July 25 online Solar Power Hour.  The event is free.  To register click here.

Solar Switch is a no-cost initiative aimed at assisting homeowners and small businesses in exploring and installing rooftop solar systems at a more affordable rate. By harnessing the collective purchasing power, residents in the Chicagoland area can secure discounted prices on high-quality rooftop solar installations for their properties.

Solar Switch is completely free with no obligation to commit to solar panel purchases. Participants have the flexibility to proceed with a solar installation based on program-negotiated pricing, which includes a group discount determined through a competitive auction process involving only qualified installers.

Residents who engage in the program are projected to save an average of $4,000 on a standard-sized solar installation. Furthermore, combined state and federal incentives can slash costs by an additional 60%. Solar Switch participants will also benefit from complimentary educational events and webinars covering the fundamentals of transitioning to solar energy, along with post-auction installer webinars.

Register: Sign up for free at SolarSwitch.com/KaneCounty by August 21, 2024.

Note: You will not receive any sales calls, nor will your information be shared with third parties.

2. Auction: A reverse auction with qualified installers took place on June 5, 2024. The lowest bids for a high-quality installation won the auction.

3. Personal recommendation: Upon registering, you will receive a personal recommendation based on your registration details. This offer will include your estimated costs, savings, and expected electricity generation.

4. You decide: You have until August 21, 2024 to decide if you want to accept the offer. There is no obligation to accept.

5. Installation: If you accept, the winning installer will contact you for a site survey and set an installation date. All installations will take place by March 21, 2025.

During the prior Solar Switch offering in Kane County, 529 homes or businesses registered for the program, 106 accepted their offer, and 11 so far have been installed with more in the works.
