Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission Commended for Its All-Veteran Workforce
The Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) has been recognized with the prestigious U.S. Department of Labor's 2024 HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion Award for its outstanding efforts in hiring and retaining veterans. The VAC is the only organization in the collar counties with an all-veteran staff. The HIRE Vets Medallion Award honors employers committed to supporting veterans' professional development.
“We hire veterans because we recognize the enormous contributions they make to both the workforce and the community," said Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission Superintendent Jake Zimmerman. “With a team comprised entirely of veterans, we are best positioned to understand the needs of our clients and provide fulfilling career opportunities for our staff."
As County Veterans Service Officers, the Kane County VAC has helped former service members access more than $170 million in federal veteran benefits each year.
Established under the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017 (HIRE Vets Act), the award program distinguishes employers who meet rigorous criteria, including veteran hiring and retention rates, the availability of veteran-focused resources, leadership development programs, and dedicated human resources support.
With just over 18,600 veterans, Kane County currently ranks seventh in veteran population among Illinois' 102 counties. Detailed information about the Kane County KCVAC is available on their website at https://www.countyofkane.org/pages/veterans.aspx .
