Kane County Sheriff's Office Social Media Post 5/5/2026 2:00PM

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has recently fielded numerous phone calls and reports associated with the Fake Jury Duty and Federal Warrant scams. We wanted to take a moment to keep you informed and protected. Scammers are posing as Kane County Sheriff's Office law enforcement deputies, claiming you or a family member has missed jury duty. During the conversation, the individual threatens to arrest you or a family member unless you pay immediately.

What they do:
• Use intimidation and urgency, saying a warrant is active
• Spoof phone numbers to appear from local police or sheriff’s offices that look legitimate, but in reality are not.
• Use real names of judges or law enforcement deputies to sound legitimate
• Ask for personal information like Social Security numbers or birthdates

They may demand payment through:
• Bitcoin or cryptocurrency
• Venmo or other apps
• Gift cards
• Cash/debit kiosks or wire transfers

Know the facts:
• Courts will NEVER call or email demanding money
• Law enforcement will NOT call you about a warrant
• Jury duty notices are sent by U.S. Mail only

If you receive a call:
• Hang up immediately
• Do NOT send money or provide personal information
• Verify by calling your local Sheriff’s Office or court directly
• Report it to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov or ic3.gov
