Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Mater

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 7/10/2025 12:00PM

“A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water-logged stick will do just fine." – John Grogan, Author, Marley & Me

He's quite the handsome boy!

All white with a face that automatically forms into silly expressions, Mater, a 1-year-old neutered white male Pit Bull, wears his heart and emotions on his face. And he certainly doesn't have to work too hard to show people how outstanding his interpersonal skills are, that's for sure!      materfunnytongue.jpg

He greets his visitors with an over-the-top tail wag, sometimes known as “happy tail." He just can't help himself! It's almost as though his back end has a mind of its own!

Mater appears to have seasonal allergies, which shows up on his white fur as red areas around his eyes, nose and ears. It seems Pit Bulls in general are more likely to be susceptible to skin allergies, which can cause itching and redness, especially around those particular areas. It is manageable with regular grooming and medications as well as keeping the home environment as free from dog dander and outside pollen as possible.

Mater seems to get along with everyone, including other dogs and kids (after he gets a slow introduction, of course!). And there won't be a problem if he winds up as the only dog in the house.

He'll just have more room to wag his happy tail!
