Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Rhiannon

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 6/6/2025 1:00PM

“I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not better for it." – Abraham Lincoln (16th U.S. President)

She was named after a hit song made famous by Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks that helped rocket the band to stardom. The name itself means “great queen" or “majestical queen" in Welsh.

Rhiannon, a 5-month-old, black German Shepherd Dog-mix almost looks majestic, especially when she's dressed in her blue halter outfit. She has ears that push straight up into the air along with an underbite that makes her look as though she's attempting a queenly grin.

Rhiannon will do best in a home where she is the only pet, at least for now. Once she is trained, socialized and well on her way to becoming a good citizen, she might enjoy having a brother or sister for companionship.

Why would she need training? She's only a puppy?

The answer to that is, of course, she's only 5-months-old, but she hasn't had any formal training or socialization. Now is the perfect time to begin her life-long education on how to become the best puppy she can be.

Puppies feel the world with their mouths and Rhiannon has sharp teeth. She may not mean to hurt someone, but in her excitement of being alive, she could accidentally, while playing, grab someone's hand or finger.

She also likes to jump around a lot when she's on a leash, even getting tangled and wrapped around other people who are within the area.

Rhiannon isn't too keen on playing with toys although she will play with them when she's in her kennel by herself. She would much rather spend her time interacting with people and other dogs, just so she doesn't miss out on anything.

After all, it's her kingdom and she is the queen!

One More Thing…

A great big Thank You! goes to Sophia from Geneva who just turned 10-years-old on June 4!

Rather than ask for gifts for herself, she let all of her friends know that she only wanted gifts of dogs and cat toys and treats in order to donate them to the KCAC shelter.

Sophia, along with her mother and brother, brought her donations to us on the day of her birthday! We were so impressed with her generosity and selflessness that we absolutely had to have a picture of Sophia surrounded by all of her donations.

There aren't enough words to describe how absolutely awesome we think Sophia is, as well as how wonderful and giving her friends and family are.

We are so grateful for all the support from people like you, Sophia!
