Almost 500 Community Members Trained in CPR and Blood Loss by Kane County

In recognition of National Heart Month in February, the Kane County Sheriff's Office and the Kane County Health Department (KCHD) teamed up to train 471 community members in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Stop the Bleed at no charge to participants. CPR is an emergency lifesaving procedure that can sustain someone in cardiac arrest or whose heart has stopped beating, helping to maintain blood circulation and oxygenation.
The Stop the Bleed training teaches bystanders how to help in a bleeding emergency by stopping blood loss. Both increase the likelihood of survival before professional medical help arrives.
The 19 training events, taught by Detective Jeremy Jorgensen of KCSO and Cadence Griffiths of KCHD, brought together first responders, teachers, Kane County staff, and members of the public with the common goal of being prepared in the case of a health emergency. Advocate Sherman Hospital, Ascension Saint Joseph - Elgin, and Ascension Mercy also supported the trainings.
“Residents play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between a life-threatening emergency and the arrival of professional medical help," said Michael Isaacson, KCHD Executive Director. “We are grateful to the Kane County Sherriff’s Office and the participating hospitals for making this important, life-saving training possible.”
