Adult-use Cannabis Sales Tax Revenue in Kane County
During a presentation to the Kane County Board's Finance committee, it was shared that Kane County has collected an average of approximately $120,000 per month in cannabis-related sales tax revenues since June, 2023. The generated revenue contributes to the County's general revenue fund.
Kane County has a 3.75% sales tax on adult-use marijuana.
Until now, the County, by law, was unable to disclose how much tax revenue it was collecting from adult-use cannabis sales if less than five cannabis dispensaries were operating in the County.
As of April, 2023 there are now five dispensaries in Kane County.
The County also shares 8% of the state tax on cannabis operations. The tax collected from the state goes into a cannabis regulation fund controlled by the Kane County Sheriff and is restricted for use for prevention and law enforcement training.
According to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations monthly figures, Illinois saw $139,100,376.09 in adult cannabis sales in November 2023.
