Successful Seed Harvest Season for Kane County Forest Preserve

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County recently recognized its volunteers and staff for their hard work the 2023 seed harvest season.
2023 Harvest Numbers:
- 21 harvests total - 413 volunteers - 569 hours
- Average of 20.8 volunteers per Wednesday harvest
- Average of 11.7 volunteers per special event harvest
- Wednesday harvest numbers - 11 harvests - 229 volunteers - 443 hours
- Volunteers collected 20 species for a total weight of 1,163 pounds
- Total seed collected; 1,761 pounds
Collected seed will be distributed at four new prairie plantings and four enrichment seedings
