Kane County Connects Staff 11/15/2024 12:00PM

The Kane County Forest Preserve District is moving forward with the design and construction of its first public art sculpture, “Guardians,” to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The abstract sculpture, resembling fallen trees, will be located at Johnson’s Mound Forest Preserve near Elburn and unveiled during the Centennial Celebration on June 8, 2025.

Local artist Mike Baur was selected to create the sculpture, which aims to symbolize the district's stewardship of nature. Construction will begin this winter, with completion expected by May 2025. The district also plans to restore 35 acres of agricultural land and create a new ADA-accessible trail called Bold Line, in the Centennial Grove in Elburn.
