Kane County juvenile probation officer Isabel Ocon has been honored with the 2024 Probation Officer of the Year Award. Ocon, who has served the county for 19 years, received the recognition during a recent Kane County Board Judicial/Public Service meeting.

LaTanya Hill, Director of Pre-Trial Services and supervisor of the Aurora Probation Office, praised Ocon's work and the critical role of probation officers in balancing the needs of young people, their families, and the court system.

“Probation officers navigate complex environments, working with schools, parents, and juveniles who often don't want them involved in their lives," Hill said. “Every year, we nominate and vote for a Probation Officer of the Year, and it's a significant honor because it comes from their peers and supervisors."

Ocon's role in juvenile probation involves investigating and supervising juveniles involved in the formal court process, while also making recommendations for court or diversion programs. Her ability to connect with clients and build rapport has made her stand out in her field.

“Isabel is amazing at engaging with her clients," Hill said, emphasizing the importance of Ocon's work.

Ocon expressed gratitude to her colleagues for the honor. “Thank you to the committee for recognizing me today," she said. “I appreciate my team and coworkers for always being so supportive. The work we do isn't easy, but we do it because we love it."

Ocon's award highlights Kane County's dedication to supporting at-risk youth.
