Meet Dr. Monica Silva, Kane County's New Coroner
Dr. Monica Silva has officially taken office as Kane County Coroner after her election in November. With 14 years of experience as a Kane County Board member focused on public health and safety initiatives, along with a strong background in healthcare, she brings a wealth of expertise to her new role.
As Coroner, Dr. Silva will oversee investigations of deaths in Kane County. She has committed to transparency and collaboration, working with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community organizations to serve residents.
“I am honored to take on this role and serve the people of Kane County," Dr. Silva said during her swearing-in ceremony. “My goal is to uphold the standards of this office and provide families with care and answers during difficult times."
Dr. Silva plans to modernize office operations and increase community understanding of the Coroner's role through educational outreach.
Prevention is a priority for Dr. Silva. Drawing on her clinical experience, she emphasizes evidence-based outcomes to understand factors like Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), which impact mental health. This approach supports early intervention and resource allocation to the organizations best equipped to help.
“Awareness is critical," Dr. Silva said. “My relationships with board members and willingness to work with elected officials allow for informed decision-making and effective policy implementation. The Coroner's Office must also engage with the public by attending community events and supporting high-risk populations."
Dr. Silva's qualifications include clinical training in anatomy, pathology, and decision-making, along with leadership and teamwork skills. She values building positive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public. These skills will support her success in the office.
Dr. Monica Silva's appointment as Coroner marks a new chapter for Kane County, with a focus on prevention, innovation, and public service.
