Kane County Coroner Dr. Monica Silva released new information on organ and tissue donation as part of her monthly report to the Kane County Judicial and Public Safety Committee.
Dr. Silva reported that through its partnership with Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network, the Kane County Coroner’s Office helped facilitate four organ donors and 16 tissue and bone donors in 2025, contributing to the saving of 15 lives.
The local results mirror a record-setting year for Gift of Hope across its service area in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. In 2025, 520 organ donors made possible 1,529 life-saving organ transplants, the highest number in the organization’s history and the fourth consecutive record year. According to the organization, an additional 2,267 tissue donors provided bone, CBO skin, and other tissue donations that helped restore mobility, health, and quality of life for patients in need.
Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network is the nonprofit organization responsible for coordinating organ and tissue donation and providing public education throughout northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Dr. Silva also reported that the Kane County Coroner’s Office investigated a total of 3,755 deaths in 2025, an increase from 3,630 cases in 2024.
