Calling All Climate Champions: Help Put Kane County's Climate Action Plan into Action

Kane County Connects Staff 4/19/2024 2:00PM

Kane County is in the process of adopting its first Climate Action Implementation Plan (CAIP). The CAIP sets goals and offers a list of actions aimed at reducing county-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving resilience to climate impacts.

The CAIP serves as a tool to support Kane County residents and businesses in identifying and implementing ways to achieve climate goals.- The plan was created by a multi-stakeholder CAIP team, facilitated and guided by the County's Climate Action Implementation Plan consultant, paleBLUEdot llc.

Kane County is now looking for volunteers to help put the plan into action.

As a member of one of the CAIP action teams, you'll work on activities to initiate, guide, monitor and evaluate the plan's execution toward climate goals. The teams will be comprised of city staff, local government officials, representatives from public agencies, interested individuals, students and consultants.

The different implementation teams will work together on a monthly or bi-monthly basis until goals have been accomplished for the objectives outlined for both 2030 and 2050. Team members will also be asked to complete tasks between meeting sessions. The CAIP is a "living plan," designed for continual evaluation and refinement, rather than a static document.

No experience in climate science is necessary and Kane County residency is not required. The application is open to individuals 15 years and older.  Parent or guardian approval is required for applicants who are under 18 years old.
