Increase in Rabies Vaccine Cost at Kane County Animal Control

The
Kane County Board has approved an adjustment to the rabies vaccine fee
administered by Kane County Animal Control (KCAC). The update
addresses the increasing expenses tied to KCAC's widely utilized rabies
vaccine program. The program operates solely on the affordable fees paid
by pet owners.
The
fee the County charges for a one-year rabies vaccine will increase from
ten dollars ($10) to fifteen dollars ($15). Despite the fee adjustment,
KCAC remains
the lowest cost option for residents in the county.
“We
continue to take a proactive approach to public health and safety,
ensuring that all pets in the County have cost-effective access to
essential vaccinations
against rabies,” said KCAC Executive Director Brett Youngsteadt.
Under
Illinois state law (510 ILCS 5/8), KCAC is tasked with enforcing rabies
inoculation requirements for all dogs and cats in the county.
Additionally, pursuant
to 510 ILCS 5/16.5, the department must conduct at least one
microchipping clinic annually.
Last
year, the staff at KCAC held six drive thru rabies vaccines clinics,
providing a total of 550 dogs and cats life-protecting vaccines.
