Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Sushi
No cat purrs unless someone is around to listen." – Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, American author of fiction & non-fiction books & articles on animal behavior
She's such an adorable 3-year-old cat. How could anyone not fall in love with her?
Even if you're not particularly a lover of cats, Sushi, a spayed gray Domestic Shorthair, could win you over with her loveable sweet nature. She's a fluffy, soft cat with big round eyes that gaze right into yours.
She and her sister, Frida, were both owner-surrendered to KCAC due to issues with the family dog. Despite any fear she might have felt, Sushi kept her loving personality and seems extremely social with people.
She has appointed herself the official greeter of the cat room. If anyone enters, she will immediately come out to meet them. Put out your hand and she will nuzzle it, attempting to make sure you stay with her for your entire visit. If you wander around the room, she'll keep tabs on you by watching everything you do. She stays alert as long as someone is in the room, but when she's alone, she'll find a comfortable spot to burrow into for her next nap.
Sushi enjoys playing with toys, but they have to be in front of her, otherwise she won't chase after them. It's not that she's lazy, it's just too much bother for her to initiate playtime.
Even though she was initially raised with Frida, they aren't necessarily a bonded pair. Sushi seems very happy spending time on her own, greeting people and getting lots of pets and head scratches.
Sushi will do well in a home with no other cats, and definitely, no dogs. If she's allowed to thrive in a no-stress environment, she will make a wonderful companion.
