Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Meet Captain

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift." Mary Oliver, Pulitzer Prize winning Nature poet

His name alone makes you think strength, power and command. His looks support the premise that it would take a lot for him to show any kind of fear. His ancestry appears to be part that of Akita and Siberian husky.

His name is Captain and at 2-years-old and over 60 pounds, he looks like a force to be reckoned with. In reality, he is a pet bandit, stealing as many pets as he can for as long as he can.

He enjoys playing with toys, if they can keep his interest. A tennis ball is among his favorite toys and if you add in a soft, squishy toy, then his attention span might last for a little while longer.

Captain seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, even getting excited when he sees one. He takes his time when first approaching another dog, sniffing it before going into a play bow. His body posture is loose, especially around a female dog. You can tell he just wanted to impress her with his good looks and gallant demeanor.

Captain will thrive in a home where he can have a brother or sister to teach him socialization skills. Even better, if he is able to get the benefits of going to training with his new family, he will become a very handsome, very fine citizen, indeed.      Captain outside.jpg

KCAC Pupdates

Congratulations to Enzo, the 5-year-old black and white Siberian husky that was surrendered by his owner.

Enzo had been with KCAC since August 2023 and was so patient waiting for someone to finally adopt him. That patience paid off because this big, beautiful boy was finally adopted a few days before Christmas.

This 81-pound sweet and loving boy was so excited to finally get a home before the holidays he jumped up into his new chariot for the ride to his fur-ever home. We could only imagine that during the ride home, we are sure he regaled his new family with all the stories of the experiences he had while at the shelter. He probably even sang the songs of his people at the top of his lungs.

Enzo, we see nothing but long walks and lots of snuggles in your future!

Congratulations to Poppy, the 1-year-old white and black female Pit Bull-mix that came to KCAC as an underweight stray. Poppy made huge strides in her recovery while she was at the shelter. She went from not trusting anyone to finding the ability to mix and mingle with shelter staff. Her slow socialization came about probably due to all the hugs and smooches she received on a daily basis.

Her new forever family members fell in automatic love with her, as she did with them. She sat under the legs of her new human brother immediately. They looked so comfortable together, it was as though she had lived with them for years.

Your days of loneliness are over, Poppy! Have a wonderful life!
