Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Jasper

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 11/15/2024 9:00AM

“The dog was created especially for children. He is the god of frolic." – Henry Ward Beecher, American clergyman, social reformer and speaker

He's just a smidge over one-year-old.

That's pretty young to be running as a stray. The police brought him to KCAC and we put him on stray hold and waited.

And even with the cutest, most kissable face in all the county, no one called for him. No one showed up to claim him.

His name is Jasper and he's a neutered, white and brown Pit Bull Terrier-mix. He has the biggest, blackest, roundest nose that lives at the end of a very large symmetrically-proportioned head which seems to hold up his tiny little ears.

It all somehow comes together in workable fashion, and either puts Jasper into the category of the most handsome dog on the planet or just this side of the silliest.

Perhaps he is the silliest boy because he absolutely enjoys playing with plushy squeaky toys. Take the toy away and he moves on to another adventure.

Jasper has energy that knows no bounds or boundaries. He likes to pull and jump and bite at the leash which is why it's so important to start him in training classes as soon as possible.

Jasper seems to like other dogs. He was introduced to several at the shelter. With each one, he showed an interest in playing with them and sniffing each one. Then both of them would play bow and immediately go into the doggie dance of introduction.

He probably will do well in a home where there is another dog as well as older children who can take part in his training. Another dog will give him lessons in how to maneuver his world, Jasper's world, as a bouncy, energetic 4-legged sweet boy who was once lost but can now say he belongs.
