Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Bean Sprout and Beef
“Human beings are drawn to cats because they are all we are not—self-contained, elegant in everything they do, relaxed, assured, glad of company, yet still possessing secret lives." – Pam Brown, author of mystery, thriller & crime novels
Sometimes certain events in life literally beg for a musical soundtrack.
You might hear one when you first meet the feline duo of Beef and Bean Sprout. They're both spayed females, gray and brown tabby Domestic Shorthairs. These “girls" were found together on someone's driveway, two stray felines bonded as sisters from other misters.
It's probably about this point in time where the very appropriate song, “You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman from the 1995 animated classic Toy Story quietly begins to fade in with, “You've got troubles, I've got 'em too/There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you."
Both of these ladies seem to be about 6-years-old, give or take a moment or two in time. Age, however, doesn't really matter when the environment you're forced into is only about trying to survive one minute at a time.
That's exactly what happens when cats and dogs are left to make it on their own. They're forced to either live on the streets by themselves or build a support system wherever they can. Instinct kicks in. Connections are formed, “families" are built, friendships are made.
And that's just what Beef and Bean Sprout did. They forged a relationship that will hopefully last a lifetime. “We stick together, we can see it through/'Cause you've got a friend in me/Yeah, you've got a friend in me."
Luckily, Beef and Bean Sprout didn't seem all the worse for wear when they were brought to KCAC. Staff noticed how much they relied on each other, how bonded they are and put them together.
It would be ideal if they could get adopted together into a calm home where there are no other pets. Older children will give the cats their space when they need it and pet them when they're feeling as though all the pieces of their new life don't fit together.
“And as the years go by/Our friendship will never die/You're going to see, it's our destiny/You've got a friend in me"

KCAC Updates
Congratulations to Dagwood, the kitten with a large personality that charmed everyone he met. Found in someone's garage, Dagwood quickly became a KCAC favorite, mostly due to his low-key sweet personality. Always up for pets and spending time on anyone's lap who is willing, Dagwood finally found his fur-ever family!
We are so happy for you, Dagwood! You deserve the best 9 lives you can possibly have!
