Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Poppy
She looked a little dazed when she first arrived at KCAC.
Her ribs showed through her white fur and her nails were bent like crochet hooks. As she shrunk back into the warmth of a staff member's lap her eyes showed fear and mistrust. She had obviously been on the run for some time and was feeling a bit uncertain of her future.
But Poppy, the 1-year-old white and black female Pit Bull-mix found as a stray in Montgomery has opened up her heart little by little since she's been at KCAC. With at least two meals a day on her health plan, she's looking like the pretty girl she was always meant to be.
Still a bit shy, Poppy is looking for an owner who will give her space to grow. Once she feels comfortable and loved, she is up for as many snuggles and kisses as she can handle.
You might think she would fear humans due to her background, but nothing is farther from the truth. She loves hanging out with people and enjoys showing off how goofy she really can be.
As her confidence has grown, so have her social skills. Originally shy around other dogs, even hiding behind staff members, she can now meet another dog in a calm, trusting manner. Actually, she seems to like the camaraderie of having another canine in the room who can show her the ropes. Maybe her new family will have a brother or sister for her to hang out with who will cuddle with her.
No one can know what Poppy went through before she came to KCAC. Judging by the condition she arrived in, it wasn't a positive situation. But every day she has shown that she is willing to learn the ways of the world and put her past behind her. All she needs is the love and support of her new family.
Is that you?
KCAC Pupdate
Congratulations to Karl, the big-hearted Pit Bull-mix found as a stray. What a personality he has, which is why he made quite the impression on his soon-to-be family.
He was so excited to see his new family in the lobby as he made his way out of the door that he made sure to go up to each person so he could to wish them a Merry Christmas and say good-bye.
Then, with nary a second look, he jumped into his new sleigh-ride and off they all went together.
May you get all the belly rubs you want this holiday season and forevermore, Karl!
