Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Kayla

Kane County Connects Staff KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 5/10/2024 3:00PM

She's only a year old. She's too young to understand how she became a stray or why no one came to claim her.  We can only hope she doesn't remember the days when she had an owner, but not a forever family because this energetic black and white Lab-mix has nothing but sweetness built into her DNA. Her smile alone lights up a room and she seems to smile all the time.

Her name is Kayla and she's a happy girl. She loves everyone and thinks with all her might that everyone loves her. I mean, what's not to love?

Even though she's somewhat of a lightweight, not even breaking 40 pounds, she's an energetic little thing.

She must have skipped the training session on boundaries, however, because she doesn't have any. It's a “let's go!" all of the time. Can we see obedience training in her future? How about some agility training? Now, that would use up some of her energy!

As the newest member of her forever family, training is a good way for everyone to bond with her and keep the cues consistent. Through repetitive commands she will begin to understand her limits, which, right now, she doesn't think she has.

She seems to like other dogs but is kind of klutzy in attempting to meet them. She doesn't know how to properly greet other canines, but why would she? She probably never received any direction in the months before she came to KCAC.

With training and love and support from her new fur-ever family, just imagine how much her smile will shine!

KCAC Pupdate

Congratulations to Peter Parker, the 4-month-old Siberian Husky-mix found abandoned in a box along with his 6 other siblings. Even though he is the last of his pack to find his forever home, he definitely hit pay dirt! And just in time for Mother's Day!

We're so proud of you, Peter!
