The Kane County Sustainability Office is seeking rural business partners interested in owning electric vehicle (EV) charging stations through a new grant opportunity.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) recently announced a $20 million funding program through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) to support the purchase and installation of publicly accessible EV charging stations, including both Level 3 Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) and Level 2 chargers.

Applications open Monday, November 17, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible applicants must own the proposed charging station or host site. Projects will be evaluated on readiness, location, and community impact, with additional scoring points for installations in Equity Investment Eligible Communities.

Kane County's Sustainability Office will apply on behalf of selected rural partners, providing technical assistance with site planning, eligibility requirements, and grant preparation. Participating businesses will serve as host sites and owners of the EV chargers, helping expand access to clean transportation in rural communities across the county.
