Kane County Soil Health Impact & Economic Assessment

written by Growing For Kane 10/6/2025 3:00PM

Kane County is launching a Soil Health and Economic Assessment to identify opportunities to grow farm income and strengthen long-term resilience through practical, on-farm soil health strategies.

Seeking Information from Local Crop Farmers

This project relies on real farm data—soil, operations info and financial records—to learn more about the benefits of soil health practices and the day-to-day realities of putting them into place. All data and information provided will be kept secure and anonymous.

Here's what is being collected:

  • Soil testing data
  • Conservation program participation
  • Balance sheets
  • Income/cashflow statements
  • Tax records
  • Land appraisals/valuations
  • Management and input costs (operations costs)
  • Investment/Improvement spending
  • Soil health practice costs

Farmers may choose to share financial records, or participate only in the soil testing if preferred. Participating farmers will receive free soil testing. And farmers that share financial information will receive a high-level financial assessment.

If you are interested in learning more or participating in this project, please fill out the form at this link: bit.ly/46rxBdy or scan the QR code. Kane County staff will be in contact to begin collecting information in mid-October.
