Kane County Connects Staff 9/26/2022 8:00AM

According to the University of Illinois Extension, Illinois is the top pumpkin producing state in the nation. Kane County is listed among the top 10 counties in the state for producing pumpkins. And another interesting fact, around 90 to 95% of the processed pumpkins in the U.S. are grown in Illinois. Pumpkins are considered a fruit and are 90% water. The word pumpkin originates from the Greek word “pepon” which translates into “large melon.” You can find more fun facts about pumpkins on the University of Illinois Extension website at https://web.extension.illinois.edu/pumpkins/facts.cfm
