Kane County Offers Rent and Utility Help to Prevent Homelessness
Kane County residents who are behind on rent or utilities and at risk of eviction may qualify for financial assistance through the county’s Homeless Prevention Program. Applications for the federally funded program will be accepted through July 31, 2025.
The program provides a safety net for low- to moderate-income renters by covering:
Up to 12 months of past-due rent, plus three months of future rent
Up to 12 months of overdue utility bills
Security deposits for new rental units
To date, the initiative has helped more than 200 families and individuals avoid homelessness and has assisted over 50 building owners in Kane County. The program provides vital support to residents facing financial hardship and helps maintain housing stability throughout the county, helping not only renters, but also landlords and the overall housing system.
