Fermilab Needs Artists, Composers for Artist-in-Residence Programs

Kane County Connects Staff 8/20/2022 7:00AM

To stimulate communication and interactions among scientists, artists, and the public, Fermilab in Batavia created an artist-in-residence program and a guest composer program.

They are currently seeking applications for the 2023 cycle. Fermilab is America's national laboratory dedicated to particle physics research.

This call is open to visual artists, composers, and other creators. The artists will interact with scientists at the laboratory, and learn about their research and how it connects to society.

This information will then be used to create a body of work, leading to presentations in the community and possibly an exhibition/concert of the work created through the Fermilab residency.

A small stipend will be provided by Fermi Research Alliance.

The application period for the artist-in-residence and guest composer programs opened June 1 and closes at midnight Aug. 31.

Applicants may be contacted for an interview and a presentation of examples of their portfolio.

Creators must be self-motivating and self-sufficient. Applicants will be notified by Oct. 28, 2022, or before.

Questions for these programs should be submitted to art@fnal.gov.

The application will require: a resume/CV; artist/composer statement; letter of intent describing what you hope to accomplish through this residency and how you would contribute to the program as well as to the community; a letter of recommendation; images of current work or latest recordings that represent your work; and links to webpages and other social media are encouraged.

For the application form, visit events.fnal.gov/art-gallery/air-2023callall_final/.
