The Kane County Board has approved a balanced budget of $416.6 million for Fiscal Year 2025, aimed at maintaining and enhancing essential services for the residents of Kane County.

The FY25 budget allocates $138.9 million to the General Fund, which serves as the County's primary operating fund, which covers most personnel and program operations. Additionally, $277.7 million, comprised of state and federal funding, is dedicated to special funds earmarked, separately, for specific purposes throughout the county.

Supporting the budget, is a property tax levy of $60.8 million, which includes the increase of the consumer price index of 3.4%, since the last budget cycle.

"This budget underscores our commitment to financial stability, public health and safety, infrastructure, economic development, and a strong workforce — all essential for enhancing the quality of life in Kane County," said County Board Chairman Corinne Pierog. "I want to express my thanks to our finance team and elected officials who worked tirelessly to ensure the successful completion of this balanced budget."

Kane County receives approximately 4% of a homeowner's total property tax bill, with the remainding 96% going to other local taxing bodies. Property tax amounts are set by the various taxing bodies and are based on the assessed value of each property, determined by township assessors, with tax bills for all local taxing bodies issued by the Kane County Treasurer's office. Residents who believe their property assessment is inaccurate can contact their township assessor or the Kane County Board of Review for assistance.
