Kane County Court Services Probation Director LaTanya Hill Reappointed to Supreme Court’s Committee on Juvenile Courts
Kane County Court Services Probation Director LaTanya Hill has been reappointed to the Supreme Court’s Committee on Juvenile Courts, with a term expiring on December 31, 2027. This reappointment follows her initial appointment to the Committee on February 6, 2023, by Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis.
The Committee on Juvenile Courts, established in 2018, is tasked with reviewing and informing the juvenile court process for both the criminal justice and child protection systems. Its responsibilities include evaluating and making recommendations on matters affecting juvenile law and juvenile courts, encompassing both child protection and delinquency systems. The Committee also analyzes legislation and case law to assess their impact on juvenile law, procedures, and court processes.
“Looking at the juvenile courts holistically makes a lot of sense. We regularly work with juveniles charged with serious crimes who also have a history of abuse and neglect," said Hill. There is so much overlap between the two systems that we have to evaluate what we’re doing, how we can improve, and ensure we aren’t inadvertently creating harm. What I love most about working with juveniles is the ability to initiate change in their thinking through a variety of rehabilitative approaches.”
Director Hill’s experience and expertise in juvenile courts are highly respected across Illinois. She is widely recognized as an expert in juvenile community corrections, with a long career in probation in the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit. Her involvement with the Illinois Probation and Court Services Association’s juvenile committees, service as faculty for the Supreme Court of Illinois Judicial Education Conference teaching Advanced Sentencing Alternatives for juveniles, and prior work in the child protection system all highlight her distinguished qualifications.
Hill says she has always been a strong advocate for children, emphasizing that her belief in the connection between healthy families and a healthy community has been the driving force behind her career.
