Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Pluto

KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 12/4/2025 10:00AM
“Everything that moves, serves to interest and amuse a cat. He is convinced that nature is busying herself with his diversion; he can conceive of no other purpose in the universe.” – F.A. Paradis de Moncrif, French writer & poet        pluto2.jpg

His name conjures up images of a cold planet, once a part of the solar system, now reclassified as a dwarf planet; or a streaming service of free TV that plays a mix of classic and new programs; or maybe he’s named after a female hip-hop artist from Atlanta.

An even better guess is that his moniker is taken from that of the very handsome orange Disney cartoon dog created as a companion for Mickey Mouse.

What is this name of many, you might ask? Why, it’s Pluto, of course!

Except KCAC’s Pluto is a male 1-year, 8-month-old, neutered, brown tabby cat that gives very laid-back meows as a response to another cat’s call.

Pluto is not a cat that exerts himself in his “cat-ness.” If anything, he likes to underachieve whenever possible, which allows him to keep his title of “chill-master.”

An extremely cuddly feline, Pluto ignores any challenges put in front of him, especially if it means extending past his comfort zone. He’s more than happy to stare up at you, beseeching you to pick him up and forcing him to cuddle, but it’s almost too much effort for him to jump up into your lap to initiate an embrace.

For all his nonchalance, there’s a sweetness about him that can’t be denied. He enjoys getting petted, playing with toys if someone will play with him, being the center of his own universe and enjoying as much attention as possible. It definitely is shaping up to be Pluto’s world!
