Weatherization Funding Available to Kane County Farmers

Austin Powell, Sustainability Coordinator, Kane County Department of Environmental and Water Resources 4/14/2026 1:00PM

Funding is available to Kane County farmers interested in lowering their home energy bills. Farmers can receive a rebate up to $800 as long as they complete one of two weatherization measures:

1.)    Air Sealing: the process of identifying and eliminating air leaks in your home (ex: caulking & weatherstripping); or

2.)    Attic Insulation: the installation of material in the attic to lessen the transfer of heat or cold air into the home. Examples include foam, fiberglass, cellulose, and mineral wool.

Completing both of these weatherization measures can improve the overall comfort of the home and lessen any dust or pollen from getting inside. Studies have even shown that air sealing and attic insulation can reduce a home's energy usage by 12 to 18 percent, leading to long-term savings on your utility bills.

To qualify for the rebate, farmers must provide three forms of documentation to a Kane County staff member. First, proof of residence in Kane County, such as a driver's license, utility bill, bank statement, or voter registration card. Second, proof of occupation, such as IRS Form 1040: Schedule F. Third, proof of work completed by yourself (DIY) or a qualified contractor, such as an invoice or a receipt of the purchased materials.
