Elburn Launches Contest to Design First Official Village Flag
The Village of Elburn is launching a community flag design contest to create its first official village flag — a project inspired by the vision of former Village Trustee Bill Grabarek, who long championed the idea of a unifying symbol for the community.
Grabarek’s commitment to the idea was so strong that a custom flag was created for his funeral. In his honor, Village Trustee Chris Hansen revived the initiative, aiming to engage the Elburn community in shaping a piece of village history.
Residents, artists, and designers are invited to submit original flag designs that reflect Elburn’s unique character. The flag should be simple, meaningful, and incorporate the official Elburn “E” symbol.
Submissions are due by Labor Day, September 1, 2025, and the winning design will be unveiled during the Village Christmas Stroll. The new flag will be officially raised in spring 2026, coinciding with the completion of the Village Hall and Police Department expansion.
