Adoption Success - CASA Volunteers Make A Difference in the Life of a Child

Among the complexities of the court system, there are dedicated individuals who stand as a beacon of hope for children facing an uncertain future.  They are members of the organization known as Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA.  CASA volunteers are sworn officers of the court who spend their time advocating on a child's behalf, ensuring their voices aren't lost and their best interests are always represented.

Included in CASA's many success stories is the recent outcome for a 9-year-old boy, who through no fault of his own, spent four years in the court system. His journey began with allegations of abuse or neglect against his parent, which put him into foster care where his outcome was uncertain.

He was appointed a CASA volunteer, who became part of a team to put him back on a road to stability. CASA spent countless hours reporting back to the court about the child's health and welfare.  They were there to make sure he didn't fall through the cracks and got the assistance he needed.

While CASA's goal is reunification, sometimes the best interests of the child leads in another direction, towards adoption and permanency.

And when the day of adoption with his foster family recently arrived for the 9-year-old, he stood before the judge, and eagerly said, "yes!" to his adoption, his new family and his new home.

While this story had a happy ending, 2023 witnessed a surge in children entering Kane County's foster care system and as a result, CASA urgently needs more volunteers. Each new case comes with the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life.
