For the past 29 years, 4-H Government Day has given 4-H teens an opportunity to “shadow” public officials for a day.
This year 24 members of 4-H got the chance to spend a portion of the day with a Kane County Board Member, States Attorney, KaneComm, Animal Control, Environmental and Water Resources, Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office.
The teens were shown how government operates by attending the meetings of the Forest Preserve of Kane County and then the Kane County Board. They were paired with an elected official or County staff member.
The group also attended brief presentations about how the County manages 911 calls, helps with recycling efforts and cares for wayward animals.
Kane County has 15 4-H community clubs and 80 projects for kids to choose from. Learn more by clicking here.
