Pumpkins in Kane County
In Illinois, pumpkins reign supreme.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 2021 Illinois harvested more pumpkin acres – a whopping 15,900 – than any other state in the nation. That same year, Illinois led the top pumpkin-producing states with 652 million pounds produced – more than the other top five states combined.
Kane County also continues its reign as among the top 10 counties in the state for producing pumpkins. The word pumpkin originates from the Greek word "pepon" which translates into "large melon."
