Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Meet Mike

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 3/12/2026 9:00AM

“I love cats. I have a lot of cat “tales," Ha ha, so to speak. A lot of my cats come to me. They show up at my house. I'm kind of a cat lady that way." – Gina Gershon, American actress, singer and writer

If Mike, the 8-year-old female, spayed, black and white Domestic Shorthair had her way, she would still be living the pampered cat-life at home—sleeping, eating and keeping vigil at the front window as she stalks…uh, watches the neighbor's comings and goings.         MIke2.jpg

Unfortunately, she was owner-surrendered due to changes in the family dynamic and that's how she wound up at KCAC.

Never fear, however! Mike has a resilient side (getting named 'Mike" as an example) that allows her to adapt to new situations. It must be her sweet nature combined with her silly personality that keeps her so centered and loving.

She enjoys playing by herself, sometimes with toys, sometimes without. An occasional zoomie or two may catch hold of her during unspecified times of the day or night. As she speeds around the room, jumping onto any surface available and then, eventually, coming in for a landing, those who are able to witness her antics can only marvel at how spry she appears for an “older" cat.

Mike looks forward to getting scratches on her lower back every day while at the same time listening to someone read her a story. The Cat in the Hat anyone?

She will eventually need some dental work performed down the road although it shouldn't be too much of a hurdle for her.

Mike is great at meeting new people, even showing a laid-back personality whenever she has to visit the vet.

Her openness in expanding her horizons should be a lesson for us all. Keep life simple, sweet and silly.

Take the time to be like Mike!
