Kane County Board Approves New Speed Limits on Portions of Kirk Road in STC
The Kane County Board has approved changes to the County Code related to speed limits along portions of Kirk Road following an engineering and traffic study conducted by the Kane County Division of Transportation.
The changes include codifying a 20-mph school zone speed limit on Kirk Road from 500 feet north of Foxfield Drive to Majestic Oaks Drive near Wredling Middle School in St. Charles. The reduced speed is in effect on school days when children are present.
The board also approved new speed limits on additional stretches of Kirk Road based on the traffic study and recommendations from the county's Transportation Committee.
From Majestic Oaks Drive to 0.93 mile south of Dunham Road, the speed limit will decrease from 45 mph to 40 mph. From 0.93 mile south of Dunham Road to Illinois Route 64 (Main Street), a 40-mph speed limit will be established in the County Code.
Under the ordinance, the new limits are authorized under the Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/11-604 and will take effect once new speed limit signs are installed.
