Energy Audit Program Offers Rebates to 30 Kane County Homes

​Thirty households in unincorporated Kane County will have the opportunity to receive a professional home energy audit and rebates of up to $2,000 through the County’s new Energy Audit & Rebate Program.

Applications are open Sept. 1-30. Funded with $100,000 from the County’s Electric Aggregation Fund, the program is designed to help residents lower utility bills and reduce energy use.

A professional energy audit provides a closer look at a home’s energy efficiency, identifying problems such as air leaks, inadequate insulation and inefficient equipment. Auditors may use tools such as blower door tests and infrared cameras to pinpoint areas where energy is being lost. Residents then receive recommendations for improvements such as air sealing, weatherstripping and insulation.

The program includes two rebate options: 12 low-income households may receive up to $2,000 for energy-efficiency improvements, while 18 households may receive up to $880. Households at or below 80% of the Area Median Income qualify for the higher rebate.
