Kane County Recycling By the Numbers - When's the Next Event?
The Recycling Extravaganza held on July 20 drew more than 600 visitors who dropped off an estimated 40,500 lbs. of material for recycling and reuse.
Among the recycled items, more than a ton of batteries were collected, or 2,168 lbs. of batteries. Other items recycled and their estimated weights included:
- Light bulbs – 450 lbs.
- Styrofoam – 300 lbs.
- Aerosols – 464 lbs.
- Car seats – 150 lbs.
- Propane tanks – 60 lbs.
- Smoke and CO detectors – 45 lbs.
- Bikes – 960 lbs.
In addition, electronics, such as computers and televisions, made up the heaviest portion of the recycled weight at an estimated 20,000 lbs.
The next recycling event hosted by Kane County will be held on Saturday, September 28, 8 a.m. – Noon in St. Charles and will include free document shredding for Kane County residents. Items that will also be accepted include: latex paint*, aerosols*, camp-sized propane tanks and other small compressed gas tanks*, clothing, shoes and hard-to-recycle home goods (more detail will be provided as event approaches).
