“The love of a dog is a pure thing. He gives you a trust which is total. You must not betray it." – Michel Houellebeca, French author of novels

You might have to forgive her. Her eyesight isn't what it used to be.

That's why Lola Lumphrey, a spayed female, 10-year-old, black and gray Miniature Poodle-mix, stares so intently at everyone she meets. It's so she can better focus on whoever is in the room with her. And, because she's so low to the ground, it's sometimes harder to see facial features when she's looking up.

It wasn't supposed to be that way. She wasn't supposed to get old and wind up in a shelter during her golden-older years. She was supposed to remain in a forever home for the rest of her days, but life is full of failed “supposed-tos."

Instead, she wound up walking around a field, lost because she couldn't get her bearings or find where she used to belong. Ultimately, she wound up at KCAC where she seems happy to finally have company.

She seems to like hanging around other dogs, as well, although if they get too excited, or too jumpy, she will walk away.

Getting petted makes her give off little grunts and snorts as she revels in all the attention. Sometimes, if she gets overly excited, she'll begin coughing which stirs up her asthma and the age-related irritation of her lungs.

That hasn't stopped her from enjoying all the attention she can handle by following around whoever is available to give her pets. Recently, she had a wonderful time getting dressed up in the latest Halloween costume and posing for her “calendar" shot.

While her orange witch hat sits jauntily at an angle on her head, she gives the camera her best smile showing how proud she is of her bright yellow and orange outfit.

Where once it seemed as though Lola had run out of options, it now appears that she is on the path to a very bright future full of hope, love and safety, and possibly taking the internet by storm!
