4-H Government Day in Kane County

Kane County Connects Staff 3/13/2024 7:00AM

For three decades, 4-H Government Day has provided an invaluable opportunity for teens to shadow public officials. This year, 18 members of 4-H got the chance to spend time with various government entities in Kane County, including the County Board, , Emergency Management, 911, Development Department,  and Sheriff’s Office..

Throughout the day, these teens gained insights into governmental operations by attending meetings of the Forest Preserve of Kane County and the Kane County Board, where they were paired with elected officials or County staff members.

One of the students took to the podium during the County Board meeting and read two proclaimations to declare the day Kane County 4-H Government Day and the other was highlighting National Agriculture Day in Kane County.

Additionally, they participated in informative sessions covering topics such as 911 call management, recycling initiatives, emergency preparedness and agriculture preservation efforts in the County.

Kane County boasts 15 4-H community clubs and offers 80 projects for youth participation. To learn more, visit https://extension.illinois.edu/dkk/4-h-kane-county
