Fabyan Windmill in Geneva Open Sundays Beginning June 7 - Volunteers Invited to May 17 Cleanup

Forest Preserve District of Kane County Media Release 4/29/2026 10:00AM

Explore one of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County's most iconic structures — the Fabyan Windmill — beginning Sunday, June 7.

The windmill will be open to the public on Sundays, from noon to 3 p.m., June 7 through Sept. 27. Visitors can step inside the fully restored Dutch windmill, learn about its history and engineering, and experience a unique piece of local heritage.

In preparation for opening day, the Forest Preserve District invites the public to participate in a volunteer cleanup of the windmill, Sunday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join staff and volunteers as we get the windmill ready by sweeping floors, polishing windows and assisting with general cleaning throughout the structure. Activities will focus on preparing the interior from top to bottom, ensuring the site is ready to welcome visitors. Cleaning activities will wrap-up around noon, followed by a lunch provided by the Forest Preserve District.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the site and how to get involved as a volunteer miller, for the upcoming season.

The event is free and open to individuals, families and groups interested in lending a hand and supporting the preservation of this historic landmark.
