The Sixteenth Judicial Circuit (Kane County) is pleased to announce the promotion of Jason Mathis to his new role as the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Deputy Court Administrator from his prior position as a Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Supervisor for Court Services over the Pretrial Unit.

Mathis was selected as the best candidate from a national pool of applicants. He comes to his new role with extensive years of experience with the county and was named Court Services Employee of Distinction in 2015, 2018, and 2020.

Mathis is filling the Deputy Court Administrator position left by Andrea O’Brien, who was recently promoted to Court Administrator of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit.

Mathis earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College and began his career in Kane County in 2005 when he was hired as a Youth Counselor at the Juvenile Justice Center. He became a Probation Officer in 2006 and served in a variety of roles working with both juvenile and adult clients.

Mathis was promoted to Supervisor for Court Services in 2017, and supervised the Pretrial Services Unit for most of that time. He has served as Co-Chair of the Supervisor Committee for the Illinois Probation and Court Services Association (IPCSA) since 2018 (winning their Distinguished Service Award in 2021), and has served on the Chief Judge’s Strategic Planning Committee since its inception in 2021. His previous supervisor,

Kane County Court Services Executive Director Lisa Aust, spoke enthusiastically about Mathis’ work ethic. “I’m thrilled that Jason has been chosen as the Deputy Court Administrator. He is an amazing worker. I have known him for nearly two decades in his career with Court Services, initially as a youth counselor in juvenile detention working with really difficult offenders.” Aust went on to say, “Jason knows the system from the ground up and understands how to get things done. I can’t say enough how happy I am that he’s chosen to continue to work in Kane County, he’d be an asset anywhere, but we get to continue to work with him here. He’s a great choice for this position.”
